Hello, I just purchased my very first piano - a G&K over-strung over-damper model. There are large numbers stamped (25450) on the top left inside the piano which might be the casing number ?On the right is another little paper sticker with 6904 and cox s underneath.
I have checked various other websites but they only start the numbering from 40000 in 1908.
Please if anyone has different resources to discover the age I would be very interested to know - is it a pre-1900 perhaps ?
Thanks very much !
PS The chap who reconditioned it several years ago is dropping it off on Sunday, so presumably he should know ?

I recently bought a 2nd hand piano of the above make. I liked the sound and thought it would be a great companion. Like most people, I would like to talk about this new companion with friends and compare notes. However, I know nothing about it. Seller said that it's a German make but I found a Made in Japan sticker on it. Searched on the web and one site said that Taisei Co in Japan was a manufacturer. However, that company seems to have disappeared into thin air. On the Gors and Kallman website, it sounds supiciously like a China make. Sent them an email and got no reply. Then, there's the thing about its age. Seller said it is about 15 y.o. Checked on the web and it came out around 1941 - 50. Piano tuner said that it can't be more than 15 - 20y.o. from the inside. It's serial no is 78085. Can anyone help me with any kind of info? Btw, I cannot find the Larry Fine's book at the stores here for assistance.
